If you planning on staying in the same apartment for a little less than a year or longer my advice to you is to go and greet your neighbours within the first week of your stay. This move will be appreciated by your neighbours and it will be less awkward if you need their help one day. If no one answers the door you can try another time or you can slip a piece of paper under their door with a little greeting mentioning your name(s), the apartment number you are staying at and the duration of your stay. This way they know that you are not a one week visitor. It also means that you can participate in the social network within the building. This basically allows for exchange of greetings if you run into them or a brief exchange of news in the building (a marriage or a death etc.) but if you are lucky may be even develop friendships.
Out of the 6 apartments on the third floor where this apartment is there are three others which are permanently occupied.
